What is Java?

Java is a high-level, class-based, object-oriented programming language that is designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. It's a general-purpose language intended to let application developers write once, run anywhere (WORA), meaning that compiled Java code can run on all platforms that support Java without the need for recompilation.

  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE): The JRE includes the JVM, core libraries, and other components necessary to run applications written in Java.

  • Java Virtual Machine (JVM): The JVM is the engine that runs Java applications. It converts bytecode into machine code, allowing Java applications to be platform-independent.
